The 2007 Maine Disc Golf Championship Series

The Maine Disc Golf Championship Series exists to showcase some of the best tournaments and courses that Maine has to offer, culminating in the Tournament of Champions finale held in late October.  The 2007 edition of the Tournament of Champions will be held at Woodland Valley in Limerick.

Each tournament is a great event unto itself, but each one will follow the same basic format:

The Finals:
"Tournament of Champions" is an invitation-only, three-round tournament held on the final weekend of October.  Top players in each Series division will compete to determine the Series Champions.

  • Places will be reserved for each division (see Qualification Process below)

  • These places will be held until the Wednesday before the tournament.  At that point, any available spots will be opened up per division on a first-come, first-served basis to any players who participated in at least one Maine Championship Series event.

  • The competitive field will be capped at 72 players.

Qualification Process:

  • At each MCS event, one invitation will be awarded to the winner of each Series division.  One need not be a member of any specific organization to earn an invitation.  The invitation is not passed down if the winner is already invited.

  • An invitation does not necessarily guarantee entry into the Tournament of Champions.  Players who earn an invitation by winning an event must pre-register to lock in their spot.

  • Since there will most likely be more tournament spots open than there are qualifiers, those open spots will be filled via a wildcard process:

    • To become eligible as a wildcard, players must play a minimum of 3 Series Events during the year.

    • Wildcard players will be invited to fill any open spots in their division up to the initial cap of 10 players.  The order of eligibility will be determined by the average of each player's collective round ratings during the year.

    • Any wildcard eligible players who don't get in before the division is full are encouraged to register on the Wednesday before the event when the division caps are lifted based on availability.
